A New Creation

Words have power.

Imagine yourself, for a moment, sitting in the midst of a group of people.  This can be a larger group where you might know most, some, or none of the surrounding crowd, kind of like a church.  Or, this could be a smaller group setting, maybe ten to fifteen people, most of which you know fairly well or quite well, kind of like a small group Bible study.  Either way, due to the setting itself, the relationships you have with those around you, or the very nature of the reason or purpose for your being in the group, there is an element of feeling potentially exposed.

Jesus Paid It All

Is your strength indeed small?

Jesus paid it all.

Are you a child of weakness?

Jesus paid it all.

Do your spots remain like the leper’s?

Jesus paid it all.

Is your heart a heart of stone?

Jesus paid it all.

Do you stand now incomplete?

Jesus paid it all.

Does your soul need a Savior?

Jesus paid it all.

To whom do you owe it all?

Jesus paid it all.

Has your sin left a crimson stain?

Jesus paid it all.

Who washed it white as snow?

Jesus paid it all.

Who do you praise?

Jesus paid it all.

Who paid your debt?

Jesus paid it all.

Who raised your life up from the dead?

Jesus paid it all.

Where It’s At

I’m sorry to those of you who missed my post from Monday.  I had major computer issues and spent the day trying to wipe out viruses, which eventually turned into reformatting my whole hard drive and reloading all the stuff.  Quite a time-consuming pain.  So, alas, here we are on Wednesday with a post…

I am reminded almost on an hour-by-hour basis (certainly daily) that life just isn’t about me.  Ego and pride is/are my greatest struggles in life.  At times, I am consumed by ME.

One of the definitions of the word “ego” on dictionary.com is “an exaggerated sense of self-importance.”  I have found that this manifests itself in a wide variety of ways in my life, some of which are quite subtle.

I’ve been pondering lately what keeps us on the right path, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a long-term vision, a belief in where you’re going, and the trust that doing the things necessary to get there will actually pay dividends in the end.

I believe Joseph had such a belief and vision.

Enslaved By Unbelief

Since yesterday was Labor Day, I took the day off, so I think I’ll go with a Tuesday/Thursday schedule this week.  As such, here are my thoughts for today…

Did you know that you don’t have to believe something for it to be true, nor do you have to believe in something for it to be real?

For example, you don’t have to believe in heaven for it to be a real place.  Just like, you don’t have to believe in the virgin birth in order for it to have really happened, and you don’t have to believe Christ died for your sins for Him to really be THE way, THE truth, and THE life.

God’s Original Plan

Matthew 19:1-12

1When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

3Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

4″Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female, 5and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? 6So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

7″Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

8Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

10The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

11Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”

Our Calling

I visited a church this past Sunday that is having a revival this whole week.  Sunday’s “sermon” was a message spoken basically to introduce the purpose of the revival, a motivational speech, of sorts, designed to get unsaved people to the church building during the week of revival.  During the message, the “speaker” said something that stood out to me.  He said, “We are called to share the gospel with a lost and dying world.”

Now No Condemnation

Sometimes I just want to know I’m loved, to really, really know that I’m loved.  Sometimes I seek that from my wife, or my children, or friends.  Other times, I seek it from my job, or the feeling of accomplishment my job brings, or from being really good at some hobby or sport or anything really.  Sometimes I seek it from getting lost in a book or a movie or a song.  Sometimes I seek it from an addiction.

Sadly, sometimes I don’t seek it at all.  Sometimes I convince myself that I’m completely alone, completely lost, completely unlovable, and typically this is associated with my awareness of the mistakes of my life or the reaction of another toward the mistakes of my life.

Thankfully, I was recently reminded what a big, fat lie this really is.

What Is Your Motivation?

Oddly, I forgot to write a post today.  It’s now 10:20 on Friday night, and I just realized I hadn’t written or posted anything.  I’m not sure how this slipped my mind, but it did.  I can only assume it was my letting life busyness get in the way.

Regardless, I have decided to write a little something about a topic I have been pondering today…

When you LOVE someone, how do you do it?  What is the motivation behind what you do for someone else?
