Happy Anniversary!

Sixteen years ago today, my wife, Tracy, and I made a vow to each other that did NOT include God in any way.  I believe that fact alone almost caused our demise.

Despite our many failings since, we stand here today, restored and redeemed, committed to each other in the Lord, knowing we are FREE to love each other the way God designed, even when we don’t exactly do that.

My prayer today is first, one of thanksgiving for the true blessing of reconciliation that our mighty God gave us just over ten years ago, but secondly, that I will be empowered by His Spirit to lead my wife and family with strong hands, His strong hands.

Thank you, my God, for the precious gift of my wife, my two children, and your inexplicable grace.  I’m overwhelmed with awe at Your love.

The Path To Imprisonment And Out

I woke up from a dream and found myself in a large, open field of flowing, tall grass as far as the eye could see.  It was light and airy, and I felt like I could run far and forever without stopping, or getting tired, or being hindered by anything.  I was awake, alive, and FREE.

The Sweet Spots of Our Faith

If you’ve ever played a sport with a ball and an accompanying striking instrument, such as a bat, club, or raquet, then you most likely know the feeling of connecting right in the sweet spot.  It’s a feeling of purity where a perfect transfer of energy from the striking instrument to the ball is such that you don’t even feel the two objects connect.

Stand in the batter’s box, on the first tee, or deep in the backcourt and make perfect contact, right in the sweet spot, and you won’t even feel the ball.  It’s about as good of a feeling as there is in the sporting world.

I was thinking of this image the other day in regards to our walks with God in Christ.

When life is good, where do you go mentally and psychologically?  What about when things are tough?  Do you withdraw?  What choices do you make?  What do you do to make yourself feel better?  When there is division or strife in one of your relationships, how do you respond?  When work isn’t going so well, how do you handle it?

Where is your comfort?

Two Opposing Forces

I’m going to write on a topic today on which I haven’t fully meditated, so my thoughts may be all over the place, my ideas may be slightly disjointed, and I may simply work it out as I write, kind of like talking out loud to yourself (and then again, I may not).  Anyway, I was thinking the other day about how the Bible is full of places in which the “sinful nature” and “the Spirit” are discussed together, and each and every time, they stand in opposition to each other.

Some More Thoughts on Unforgiveness

So, I’m sitting here not really sure what to write for today.  God hasn’t imparted to my heart any specific message or thought, so what I’m going to do is kind of write stream of consciousness and just let the ideas flow as they come.

I’ve been pondering lately, as you might have gathered from recent posts, the idea of forgiveness, but more specifically, unforgiveness, and how that relates to the state of our hearts, our daily walks with Christ, and our ability to connect and commune with God through prayer, worship, Bible reading and study, and serving/loving others.  I’ve been wondering what role unforgiveness plays in hindering our spiritual lives.

Prayer for Unforgiveness

Father,

Search my heart, Lord, and find those places where I am harboring unforgiveness toward a person or persons, a situation, a past experience, or even myself, and Lord, I humbly ask that you empower me through Your Holy Spirit to let it go, whatever it is.  Reveal Your Truth to me, and allow my heart to be healed, to find the forgiveness You exemplified in Your Son.

Lord, thank You for Your unfailing love, Your undying faithfulness, and for Your infinite grace.  Let it be an example to me of how to love my neighbor as myself.

In Your Son’s name, amen!
